What will UK-EU asylum cooperation look like after Brexit?
How would a ‘no deal' Brexit scenario affect asylum seekers? What are the implications of the UK leaving the Dublin system after Brexit? Should future UK-EU asylum cooperation extend beyond family reunion?
These are among the questions the House of Lords EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee will be asking a panel of witnesses on Wednesday 3 July 2019. This evidence session is part of the Committee's ongoing inquiry into the future of UK-EU asylum cooperation.
The Committee will question:
- Colin Yeo, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
- Professor Elspeth Guild, Professor of Law, Queen Mary University of London.
Other questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- Will Brexit leave a gap in the UK's procedures and standards of protection for refugees?
- What impact will Brexit have on UK-France border cooperation?
- Could the proposed policy to process asylum claims outside EU territory work?\
- Is the EU still experiencing ‘ripple effects' from the 2015 migration crisis, which are impacting policies and attitudes towards refugees?
