Chief Secretary to the Treasury to face Lords Economic Affairs Committee questions

Will funding for High Speed 2 increase following the Spending Review? Does cost-benefit analysis have serious limitations when considering large infrastructure projects? Will the Spending Review take into account the proposals made by the Augar Review of post-18 education last week?

These are among the questions the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will be asking The Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, at 3.35pm on Tuesday 4 June 2019.

Other questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • When will the Spending Review conclude, and when will the National Infrastructure Strategy be published?
  • Should the north of England be the priority for rail investment?
  • Should funding for the Northern Powerhouse Rail Programme be ring-fenced?
  • Is the Government willing to support new nuclear power stations beyond Hinkley Point C?
  • Do you agree with the National Infrastructure Commission that cities should have more powers and funding to pursue plans for local infrastructure?
  • Will the removal of the cap on local authority borrowing for housebuilding increase the supply of homes? Have local authorities begun using their new powers?

This evidence session, which is open to the public, will start at 3.35pm on Tuesday 4 June 2019 in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
