Foreign Office Minister to give evidence to Lords nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament inquiry

Alan Duncan MP, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will give evidence to the House of Lords International Relations Committee on Wednesday 6 March in the final evidence session for its inquiry on nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament.

The Committee launched the inquiry because nuclear weapons are on the international agenda in a way they have not been since the end of the Cold War with rising tensions between nuclear-armed states and due to the fragmenting of existing non-proliferation and arms control agreements. The inquiry is examining the state of global nuclear diplomacy and the United Kingdom's role in it.

Questions are expected to cover topics including:

  • The current level of nuclear risk
  • Government steps to reduce nuclear risk
  • The Intermediate Range Nuclear Force Treaty
  • The Government's position on Iran and North Korea
  • The UK's vision and aims for the 2020 NPT Review Conference

The session will begin at 10.30am in Committee Room 4, House of Lords.
