Ending seasonal changes of time: Lords continues to take evidence on EU Commission's proposal
On Thursday 17 October the House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee will continue its inquiry on the European Commission's proposal to end seasonal changes of time in the EU, and what this proposal will mean for the UK in the context of Brexit.
The inquiry's second session will focus on the impact any change would have on air transport, electricity markets and road safety, engagement with the Government and with European counterparts, and factors that the Government should consider in any future decision.
Giving evidence to the Committee at 11am, in Committee Room 4, will be:
- Mr Nick Lloyd, Head of Road Safety, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents
- Dr Justin Andrews, Head of Design Authority, ELEXON
- Mr Philip Ireland, Manager, International Air Transport Association
Questions are likely to include:
- What are the implications of the EU Commission's proposal to discontinue seasonal time changes in the EU for your sector?
- What engagement, if any, have you had with the UK Government on the proposal so far?
- If the proposal is agreed when the UK is no longer bound by EU law, the UK Government will be faced with the choice of maintaining seasonal time changes or abolishing them in line with its EU neighbours. What factors should the Government consider in making this choice?
