Lords Committee to question George Eustice on Defra's no-deal preparations
The House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will scrutinise Defra's preparations for a ‘no deal' Brexit with George Eustice MP on Wednesday 16th October.
The Committee will explore the extent to which the Government is prepared for a ‘no deal' scenario, and discuss issues such as:
- Food prices and availability – Defra's assessment of the foods most at risk of shortages in a ‘no deal' scenario, and of the potential scale of food price increases
- Agriculture – Whether it is expected that the UK will have the ‘listed' status needed to export live animals and animal products to the EU in a ‘no deal' scenario
- Fishing - the level of risk of illegal fishing and/or clashes between fishing vessels in the event of a ‘no deal' Brexit
- Environment – The Committee will ask questions on biosecurity, REACH and if the Office of Environmental Protection's shadow body will be operational from 31 October
The evidence session will begin at 10:00 in Committee Room 2 in the House of Lords.
