Minister to face Lords daylight saving inquiry ahead of Sunday clocks change


On Thursday 24 October the House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee will hear evidence from Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility Kelly Tolhurst MP as part of its inquiry on the European Commission's proposal to end seasonal changes of time in the EU, and what this proposal will mean for the UK in the context of Brexit.

Giving evidence to the Committee at 10.10am, in Committee Room 4, will be:

  • Ms Kelly Tolhurst MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility), Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

The session is likely to focus on:

  • The impact of seasonal time change differences and the Irish border
  • Engagement with devolved administrations, and UK stakeholders e.g. airlines, road safety
  • The Government's assessment of whether alignment or non-alignment with the EU Commission's proposal is in the best interests of the UK
  • Public consultation on the matter
  • An update on the current state of play with this proposal
  • The outcome of the Government's bilateral engagement with other Member States
