Young people and gambling, funding for treatment and concerns about links with the industry: GambleAware and BACTA to give evidence to Lords Committee
On Tuesday 29 October the House of Lords Select Committee on the Social and Economic Impact of the Gambling Industry will hold a double evidence session with witnesses from GambleAware and the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA).
Giving evidence to the Committee at 3.20pm in Committee Room 4 will be:
- Marc Etches, Chief Executive of GambleAware
- Kate Lampard CBE, Chair of Trustees, GambleAware
Questions are likely to focus on:
- Gambling as a public health issue
- The potential impact of a mandatory levy
- The level of funding required to provide treatment and support for disordered gamblers and their families
- Concerns about the relationships between GambleAware, treatment providers and the gambling industry
- Who should be commissioning gambling research in the UK
Giving evidence to the Committee at 4.20pm in Committee Room 4 will be:
- John White, Chief Executive of BACTA
- Jason Frost, former President of BACTA
Questions will focus on:
- The role of Category D gaming machines in the gambling industry
- The forms of gambling open to children and young people in the UK
- Any possible link between gambling when young and experiencing gambling related harm later in life
- The future of under 18s gambling in the UK
- The relationship between the Gambling Commission and the gambling industry
