Lords Speaker writes to Members of the Lords to ask them to stay away from Westminster and work from home

Lord Fowler, The Lord Speaker has today written to all Members of the House of Lords reminding them of the importance of following public health social distancing guidelines, and encouraging them to work from home using technology to participate in virtual proceedings of the House.

The letter comes ahead of the House of Lords returning to business on Tuesday 21 April from when oral questions to Ministers, Private Notice Questions (Lords urgent questions), Ministerial Statements and non-legislative debates will all be conducted entirely online.

Lord Fowler points out that in the week before the Easter Recess the average attendance in the House fell from around 450 to below 100 and calls on Members to play their part in ensuring the average daily attendance continues to fall.
