Lords committee holds second evidence session on the future of journalism

This second evidence session will give an overview of how to address changes in both the production and consumption of journalism and explain the findings of academic research in these areas.
 
The evidence session will begin at 3.30pm in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. The witnesses will include:

• Professor Karin Wahl-Jorgensen, Director of Research Development and Environment, Cardiff University School of Journalism Media and Cultural Studies
• Dr Seth Lewis, Associate Professor, Shirley Papé Chair in Emerging Media, University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.

Questions likely to be asked include:

• What do you see as the biggest challenges for different news providers? What are the best examples of successful innovation to meet those challenges?
• How have digital technologies changed the production of journalism and how successfully have journalists adapted to these changes in the newsroom?
• How have social media and online search engines changed the consumption and production of news?
• How significant is the role of citizen journalism and how different is citizen journalism from other kinds of journalism?
• How could news providers better represent and engage with different communities, including those least likely to trust journalists or follow the news?
