Age UK, homelessness and mental health charities give evidence on COVID-19 lessons

Homelessness, mental health and addiction will be on the agenda when the House of Lords Public Services Committee hears from witnesses tomorrow (Wednesday 8 July from 3 p.m.).

The committee will hear from:

At 3.00 p.m.

  • Nathan Dick, Head of Policy, Revolving Doors Agency
  • Caroline Bernard, Head of Policy and Communications, Homeless Link
  • Rick Muir, Director, Police Foundation

Possible questions include:

  • How can we ensure that partnerships between local authorities, mental health services, police, homelessness services and substance misuse treatment providers remain in place once lockdown is over?
  • Does the Government's action taken in March suggest that ending rough sleeping is a matter of priorities rather than resources?
  • How should public services support individuals accommodated during lockdown to ensure that they do not return to the streets?

At 3.55 p.m.

  • Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director, Age UK
  • Nigel Edwards, Chief Executive, Nuffield Trust
  • Neil Heslop, Chief Executive, Leonard Cheshire

Possible questions include:

  • What effect did a lack of integration between health and social care have on the ability to care for people with complex needs during the pandemic?
  • During lockdown, have services developed new ways of supporting people with complex health and care needs?
  • Since lockdown began, what have been the consequences of a lack of investment for people with complex health and care needs?

The virtual session will be live on Parliament TV.
