Lord McFall to tell Peers of COVID-19 impact on Lords


The House of Lords Constitution Committee will hear from Lord McFall of Alcluith, Senior Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, tomorrow (Wednesday 15 July at 10.30 a.m.) when it probes issues including virtual proceedings and online voting.

Possible questions and topics of discussion include:

  • How well has the House of Lords adapted to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • What impact have virtual proceedings had on the effectiveness of debate and questioning of ministers in the House?
  • Should the Lords retain online voting after the end of the pandemic and social distancing?

The session will be broadcast live on Parliament TV.
