COVID-19's constitutional implications for courts and justice – Lords evidence session


The House of Lords Constitution Committee will hear from legal experts tomorrow (Wednesday 1 July) as it continues to explore the constitutional implications for our courts and justice system of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee will hear from:

The session will be broadcast live on Parliament TV.

Possible questions and topics of discussion include:

  • What are the benefits, risks and challenges of remote hearings for courts and tribunals?
  • What issues do remote hearings raise for inexperienced users of courts and tribunals?
  • What impact has COVID-19 had on the need for access to and availability of free legal advice?
  • What is your view on the possibility of removing the need for juries in some types of case to address the backlog in the justice system?
