Engineering, architecture and design sectors to give evidence to Lords EU Committee

On Thursday 25 June 2020, representatives from the engineering, architecture and design sectors will be giving evidence to the House of Lords EU Services Sub-Committee.

This evidence is part of the Committee's inquiry into future UK-EU relationship on professional and business services.
This session will be held remotely and streamed on Parliament TV.

At 10am the Committee will hear from:

  • Martin Darbyshire, Chief Executive Officer, tangerine
  • Andrew Forth, Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Royal Institute of British Architects
  • Mark Naysmith, Chief Executive Officer, WSP UK
  • Benedict Zucchi, Principal, Building Design Partnership (BDP).

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • How important are EU markets for your companies, and companies and professionals in your sectors?
  • What barriers might your companies, and others in your sectors, face when seeking to operate in the EU after the transition period?
  • What engagement have you had with the Government on negotiations on the future UK-EU relationship? Are you satisfied that the Government has taken all of your key priorities on board?
  • How does the recognition of professional qualifications benefit UK architects and engineers? What are your views on the Government's and EU's proposals on this?
  • What arrangements would you like the Government and the EU to agree on public procurement as part of a UK-EU deal?
  • To what extent do your companies, and others in your sectors, rely on the ability to undertake short-term business trips to the EU or operate secondments between offices?

On Friday 22 May 2020 the Committee invited written contributions to this inquiry. Read the full call for evidence and find out how to submit evidence before the 28 June deadline.
