Lords move to hybrid proceedings from Monday
From Monday 8 June, the House of Lords will move to a hybrid model where most members will continue to participate in proceedings virtually, whilst allowing some to physically attend the chamber.
In the new model, members will be expected to continue attending virtually unless they indicate otherwise. Those wishing to attend the Chamber physically will be able to, but only in strictly limited numbers and if they sign up in advance.
Hybrid proceedings will be used to conduct all business in the House, including legislation, and normal procedure will continue to be followed as far is practical.
A number of steps have been implemented to remain compatible with public health guidance including to allow social distancing in the chamber, improving ventilation and to minimise door handling.
Many House of Lords services continue to be operated remotely and members are still being encouraged not to stay on the Estate for longer than necessary. The guidance will remain under constant review and will be updated accordingly as the transition takes place.
The move to hybrid proceedings comes ahead of plans to implement a remote voting system in mid-June. Further details on this will follow in the coming weeks.
