Economic Affairs Committee urges Chancellor to end delays to social care reform
The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, to highlight the desperate need of the social care sector for help and the recommendations the Committee made in its 2019 report, Social care funding: time to end a national scandal.
The report's recommendations would go a long way to solving the sector's urgent problems and in the long term put social care on a more sustainable footing.
The Chancellor was questioned by the Committee last week. When asked about the problems faced by the social care sector he said that the absence of a consensus over funding is a significant barrier to reform, along with its expense.
The Committee's report, and the evidence that underpins it, demonstrates that consensus does exist, and that all sides agreed that any system that is fit for purpose will need much more money.
