Lords EU Committee to quiz Michael Gove on EU negotiations

The House of Lords EU Committee will next week take evidence from Michael Gove MP, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, in its first remote evidence session.

The session will be conducted remotely over Zoom and will start at 2:30pm on Tuesday 5 May. The session will be available to follow live at www.parliamentlive.tv

Questions the Committee will put to Mr Gove include:

  • Given the disruption caused by Covid-19 is it still the Government's position that it will not extend the transition period beyond 31 December?
  • What steps is the Government taking to ensure the effective implementation of the protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland?
  • How will the Government ensure Parliament can effectively scrutinise the future relationship negotiations?
  • What is his response to Michel Barnier's criticism that the UK Government was not engaging seriously in key aspects of the future relationship negotiations?
  • Where have negotiations got to on fishing quotas rebalancing and quota shares?
  • Whether the two sides will reach decisions on equivalence in financial services by June and what the implications are if this is not possible?
  • Whether there is scope for the UK and the EU to agree a set of common rules on the operation of respective State aid regimes?
