Academic experts to give evidence on common frameworks

Monday 16 November

The House of Lords Common Frameworks Scrutiny Committee will tomorrow question academic experts on the common frameworks programme, including its relation to the UK Internal Market Bill, the Northern Ireland Protocol and the wider constitutional settlement.

The session will take place virtually on Tuesday 17 November at 10:45am and can be followed on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Professor Katy Hayward, Professor of Political Sociology, Queen’s University Belfast
  • Professor Nicola McEwen, Professor of Territorial Politics, University of Edinburgh
  • Professor Jo Hunt, Professor in Law, Cardiff University

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • How do common frameworks compare to the approach taken in the Internal Market Bill?
  • How do common frameworks affect the existing devolution settlement?
  • How do you see the interaction between the Northern Ireland Protocol and the common frameworks?
  • How important is future parliamentary scrutiny of the common frameworks?

Last week the Committee held its first evidence session with Scottish and Welsh ministers and received evidence on the important implications the UK Internal Market Bill will have for common frameworks. The session can be watched back on Parliament TV.
