How should the UK internal market work after Brexit? Lords to hear from Scottish and Welsh ministers

Monday 9 November 2020

The House of Lords Common Frameworks Scrutiny Committee will tomorrow be holding its first public evidence session as part of its inquiry into post-Brexit common frameworks.

Members will question Michael Russell MSP and Jeremy Miles MS on the successes, challenges and future of the common frameworks programme, as well as its relation to the UK Internal Market Bill.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask Mr Russell and Mr Miles include:

  • How successful has the common frameworks programme been to date?
  • How has your working relationship with the UK Government been throughout this process?
  • Are there specific examples of how the Internal Market Bill would restrict devolved policy choices compared to the common frameworks?
  • How should the Internal Market Bill should be changed with respect to common frameworks?
  • How do common frameworks fit within the broader devolution settlement and the review of Intergovernmental Relations?

The session will take place virtually on Tuesday 10 November at 10:30am and can be followed on Parliament TV.
