Is the future of healthcare digital? Lords Committee to ask BMA and Healthwatch England

The House of Lords COVID-19 Committee will tomorrow take evidence from the British Medical Association, Healthwatch England, the Kings Fund and the Staffordshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership on how an increasing reliance on digital technology might change how health services are accessed and delivered.
The Committee will explore the extent to which more health services are being delivered online as a result of the COVID pandemic and whether this will lead to a long-term trend towards digital healthcare.
The evidence session will start from 10am in Tuesday 24 November. It will be available to watch live at www.parliamentlive.tv giving evidence will be:
- Dr Farah Jameel, Executive Member of the General Practitioners Committee, British Medical Association
- Chris McCann, Director of Communications, Insight and Campaigns for Healthwatch England
- Pritesh Mistry, Policy Fellow for Digital Technology at The King’s Fund
- Professor Ruth Chambers OBE, Staffordshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership’s clinical lead for technology enabled care services
Issues the session will cover include:
- The role of digital technology in delivering healthcare services before and during the pandemic, and the likely future trends.
- The long-term impact of digital technology on the delivery of healthcare services.
- Any additional training required to ensure that both the current, and future, healthcare workforce has the necessary skills to work digitally.
- The impact of offering more services digitally on patients’ outcomes and experiences.
- Risks of increased reliance on digital technology including for groups that may struggle to access digital healthcare services.
