Work and Pensions Secretary urged to look again at the Economic Affairs Committee’s most urgent recommendations on Universal Credit

The Chair of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee has written to the Work and Pensions Secretary to express his disappointment at her department’s response to the Committee’s July report, Universal Credit isn’t working: proposals for reform.
In his letter to the Rt Hon. Thérèse Coffey MP, Lord Forsyth has asked for a more serious and detailed response from the Department for Work and Pensions to some of the report’s most urgent recommendations. Namely making the increase in Universal Credit’s standard allowance permanent and the writing off of historical tax credit debt owed by Universal Credit claimants.
