Lords COVID-19 Select Committee holds oral evidence session to gather views about the long-term economic and societal effects of the pandemic

The organisations have been invited to give evidence on the key themes that have emerged from their work, so that Committee members can build the information into their own learning about the likely long-term impact of COVID-19 on people and society as a whole.

The four organisations invited to give evidence at the session are:

• University College London (UCL), who ran the openDemocracy ‘Visions of a world after COVID-19’ project. Brad Blitz, Head of the Department of Education, Practice and Society at UCL’s Institute of Education will be giving evidence;
  
  
• The All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group (APPCCG), which launched The Reset Initiative on the Green New Deal. Clive Lewis MP, co-chair of the APPCCG will be giving evidence;
  
  
• Demos, who launched Renew Normal: The People’s Commission on Life After COVID-19. Polly Mackenzie, the Chief Executive of Demos will be giving evidence; and
  
  
• The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), via its Bridges to the Future project. Anthony Painter, RSA’s Chief Research and Impact Officer will be giving evidence.

The session will allow the witnesses to explain the work that their organisation has been doing and to outline their key findings. The session will also be invaluable to discover what the organisations have learnt about the likely long-term impact of COVID-19 on people’s daily lives, and on wider society.

The COVID-19 Select Committee’s call for evidence recently closed and the members will consider these submissions and the evidence during the upcoming oral session to inform its next steps.
