Peers put BBC impartiality under scrutiny

Monday 13 December 2021

Is the BBC’s policy of ‘due impartiality’ fit for purpose?

That is one of the likely questions when former BBC managers appear before the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee tomorrow (Tuesday 14 December at 2.00 p.m.).

The committee will hear from:

  • Roger Mosey, former Head of Television News, BBC
  • Sarah Sands, former editor, Today, BBC
  • Professor Richard Sambrook, former Director of Global News, BBC

Other possible questions include:

  • Is impartiality sufficiently understood and upheld throughout the BBC?
  • What challenges does social media pose to upholding BBC impartiality?
  • Is there a sufficient breadth of perspectives among the BBC’s staff?
  • Does the BBC have sufficient processes in place to resolve internal debates about editorial issues?

The session will be live on Parliament TV.
