How quickly will children be able to catch up on lost learning once they return to classrooms and how should they be supported?

The House of Lords COVID-19 Select Committee will be exploring this issue in an evidence session when it hears from a panel of witnesses including the Sutton Trust and the Education Policy Institute next week.

The session will take place virtually at 10am on Tuesday 9 February and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Margaret Mulholland, SEND and inclusion specialist;
  • Natalie Perera, Chief Executive, Education Policy Institute;
  • Richard Sheriff, President, Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL); and
  • James Turner, Chief Executive, Sutton Trust.

Themes for discussion include;

  • The extent to which children have been able to learn digitally over the last year.
  • How digital learning might increasingly be used in education over the next 2-5 years, including to reduce inequalities in education.
