Scandinavian sporting success is about more than just Zlatan and Haaland – Lords Committee ask what UK can learn from Sweden and Norway
Tuesday 2 February 2021
The House of Lords Committee on Sport and Recreation will this week hear from expert witnesses from Norway and Sweden as it explores the Scandinavian model for delivering participation in sport and supporting citizens to be more active.
Norway and Sweden have been praised for having greater female participation in sport and for encouraging young people to be active, with a focus on their right to be healthy and on development rather than result-orientated sport for children under 13 years old.
The Committee will explore what the UK can learn from this approach as it continues to investigate how the government and sporting bodies can support people to live more active lifestyles.
The session will start at 3:30pm on Wednesday 3 February. It can be followed live at www.parliamentlive.tv giving evidence to the Committee will be:
- Mads Andreassen, Head of Activity Development, Norwegian Sports Confederation
- Dr Josef Fahlén, Associate Professor at Umeå University, Sweden, and Visiting Professor, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Norway
- Dr Eivind Å. Skille, Professor of Sport Sociology, Faculty of Social and Health Sciences, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway
