Does Brexit deal impact UK security? Lords EU Committee hears from experts

On Tuesday, the House of Lords EU Security and Justice Committee, chaired by former national security adviser Lord Ricketts, will continue its inquiry into the UK-EU deal, taking evidence from security experts on how the agreement impacts post-Brexit law enforcement cooperation.
The virtual evidence session will start at 10am on Tuesday 26 January and can be followed on Parliament TV.
The Committee will hear from practitioners on the law enforcement agreement within the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Treaty. This follows on from a previous session on 12 January, looking at how the new agreement will replace EU databases and agencies, to which the UK made key contributions when a member state.

Questions likely to be asked include:
- Does the agreement represent a good deal for the UK’s law
enforcement community? - Will the new surrender agreement be an effective substitute for the European Arrest Warrant?
- How significant to UK law enforcement agencies is the UK’s loss of access to the Schengen information System (SIS II)?
- As a third country, will the UK lose influence under the agreement in EU agencies such as Europol and Eurojust?
- Under the agreement, how quickly will UK law enforcement agencies be able to access EU data on fingerprints, DNA, vehicle registration, passenger name records and criminal records?
- What will be the effect on UK law enforcement agencies if the European Commission does not award UK data adequacy?
