Does current employment legislation protect workers’ wellbeing in an increasingly digital workplace?

The House of Lords COVID-19 Select Committee will be exploring this issue in an evidence session next week when it hears from a panel of witnesses including the TUC (Trades Union Congress) and CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development).
On Tuesday 2 February at 10am the Committee will hold a virtual session which will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV.
Giving evidence will be:

- Dr Kelle Howson, Researcher, Fairwork Foundation; and
- Dr Jamie Woodcock, Senior lecturer, Open University.
Themes for discussion during the session are:
- What have we learned during the last nine months about whether current legislation, policy and practice is adequate to protect workers’ rights and wellbeing?
- To what extent has the pandemic accelerated the growth in platform working, and what risks (and benefits) can this type of work pose to workers’ wellbeing?
- What are the biggest threats that technology will pose to workers’ rights in the next 2-5 years, and how can they be addressed?
