Lords EU Committee examine how Brexit deal will be governed

Tomorrow, the House of Lords EU Committee will hear from experts on what the TCA will mean for the UK going forward.
The Committee will seek answers on what unfinished business still remains for the UK and EU, how the UK can seek to maximise its influence with the EU through the TCA and what Parliament’s role will be in scrutinising the new UK-EU partnership.
The remote evidence session will take place from 4pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021 and can be viewed on parliamentlive.tv

Questions likely to be asked in the session include:
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the TCA and how does it compare with the structures supporting the EU’s relationships with other comparable third countries?
- How will/should the UK seek to maximise its influence with the EU and its Member States in the context of the TCA?
- What unfinished business will remain for the UK and the EU following ratification of the TCA?
- One of the explicit aims of the UK Government was to leave the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the EU. Has this aim been achieved?
- How would the process for dispute resolution differ in the case of disputes over the ‘level playing field’, and in particular how will the ‘rebalancing’ mechanism operate?
- How would you like to see Parliament approaching scrutiny of the UK-EU partnership in the months and years ahead?
- What principles should underpin the work of the proposed Parliamentary Partnership Assembly? What should it be seeking to achieve?
