Lords Committee to explore long-term impact of COVID-19 pandemic on employment in towns and cities

Next week the House of Lords COVID-19 Select Committee will hear from witnesses on the potential long-term impact of the pandemic on the nature of employment in towns and cities, including its effect on the location of employment, people’s working patterns and the skills needed by employers. This session continues the Committee’s exploration of the long-term impact of the pandemic on Towns and Cities.
The session will take place virtually at 9.45am on Tuesday 29 June and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV.

- The long-term impact of the pandemic on where businesses and jobs are located;
- The long-term impact of the pandemic on people’s working patterns, and the balance between homeworking and workplace working;
- The long-term impact of the pandemic on the need to reskill and upskill staff;
- The likelihood that pandemic-related changes in employment will lead to new and exciting changes to how space is used in towns and cities or how new economic opportunities can be created; and
- The practical interventions required to ensure that post-pandemic employment helps to create high-quality work opportunities in sustainable towns and cities.
