Lords Sport and Recreation Committee to grill Sport England and UK Sport over nation’s inactivity levels

29 June 2021

The House of Lords Committee on Sport and Recreation will this week take evidence from Sport England and UK Sport as it approaches the end of its inquiry into how we can ensure more people lead active and healthy lives.

The Committee has heard evidence that less than 50% of children are getting the hour of physical exercise a day recommended by the Chief Medical Officer and access to sport and physical recreation is often limited particularly for people on low incomes and people with disabilities.

Witnesses have also told the Committee the delivery of sport is fragmented and uncoordinated with grassroots organisations unable to secure long-term funding to provide venues and activities.

The Committee will quiz the Chief Executives of Sport England and UK Sport on their organisations’ performance and role in developing and supporting sporting opportunities across England.

The evidence session will start at 3:30pm on Wednesday 30 June and can be followed live at www.parliamentlive.tv

The witnesses will be:

  • Tim Hollingswoth OBE, CEO, Sport England
  • Sally Munday MBE, CEO, UK Sport
