Unionism – a perspective from Edinburgh and Belfast

Tuesday 22 June 2021

Tomorrow the House of Lords Constitution Committee will be hearing from journalists from Scotland and Northern Ireland, who have written about the Union recently, as it continues its inquiry into the future governance of the UK.

The session will take place virtually on Wednesday 23 June at 10.15am and can be followed on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Alex Massie, Columnist at the Times and Scotland Editor of the Sectator
  • Sam McBride, Political Editor, Belfast News Letter

Questions the committee is likely to ask include:

  • What does Unionism look like from Belfast and Edinburgh in 2021?
  • How would you assess the impact of Brexit and Covid-19 on support for the Union in Northern Ireland and Scotland?
  • Is the UK Government managing relations with the devolved administrations well?
  • Can any UK-wide constitutional reform help to strengthen the Union?
