How do businesses and investors prepare for risks?

Tuesday 23 March 2021

Following Covid-19's severe impact on the economy, the House of Lords Risk Assessment and Risk Planning Committee will tomorrow question business experts on different sectors’ handling of risks, how this compares to the Government’s approach to risk management, and what impact the pandemic will have on the way businesses and investors assess and plan for extreme risks.

The session will take place virtually on Wednesday 24 March at 10.15am and can be followed on Parliament TV

Giving evidence will be:

  • Joanne Holden, UK Chief Investment Officer, Mercer
  • Adam Marshall, Director General, British Chambers of Commerce
  • Eoin Murray, Head of Investment, Hermes Investment
  • Kate Nicholls, CEO, UKHospitality
  • Leigh Pomlett, President of Logistics UK

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • How can we improve the way that Government, businesses and investors approach longer-term risk? How can resilience become a virtue and a selling point?
  • Before the pandemic hit, how aware were the business and investment sectors about the impact or demands of a disruptive national hazard?
  • How might the current pandemic impact on how business and investors will approach and manage risk in the future?
  • How are investors managing climate change risk in particular? What lessons can we learn about how to encourage further sustainable investment?
