Lords Standards Commissioner publishes report on Members who failed to undertake Valuing Everyone training
Tuesday 18 May 2022
The independent House of Lords Commissioner for Standards has today published a report on Members who were under investigation for failing to attend compulsory Valuing Everyone training.
Since November 2020, Members of the House of Lords have been required to take part in a Valuing Everyone course. The course, which is also compulsory for Parliamentary staff, is designed to help to ensure that everyone working in Parliament is able to recognise bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct, and feels confident taking action to tackle and prevent it.
More than 700 Members of the House have now taken the course.
Today’s report deals with 47 Members who are found to have breached the Code of Conduct by not attending the training by 1 April 2021. In these cases the Commissioner has decided the breach can be dealt with by remedial action of the Member concerned doing the course. All 47 Members have now either done the course, booked on to a future course or given an undertaking to the Commissioner that they will do so.
Today’s report also covers seven Members who the Commissioner has excused from investigation due to exceptional circumstances. The requirement to attend the training still applies to these members once their circumstances allow.
Four Members remain under investigation in relation to a failure to take Valuing Everyone training.
