TikTok and Snapchat face Lords committee

Wednesday 12 May 2021

Social media apps TikTok and Snapchat will face questions tomorrow (Thursday 13 May from 3.00 p.m.) when the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee holds its last public evidence session on freedom of expression online.

The committee will hear from:

  • Elizabeth Kanter, UK Director of Government Relations, TikTok
  • Henry Turnbull, Head of Public Policy, UK and Nordics, Snap Inc

Likely questions include:

  • How do you ensure that the design of your platforms encourages good digital citizenship and gives users equal opportunities to exercise their freedom of expression?
  • Do you share concerns that the Online Safety Bill could limit competition in the social media market by increasing barriers to entry?
  • What steps should the Digital Markets Unit take to increase competition in the social media market?

The session will be live on Parliament TV.
