Chancellor to face Lords Economic Affairs Committee questions
Monday 1 November 2021
At 3pm on Tuesday 2 November 2021 the Rt Hon. Rishi Sunak MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will appear before the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee in his second annual session with the committee.
He will be joined by two officials from HM Treasury: Dan York-Smith, Director of Strategy Panning and Budget and Conrad Smewing, Director of Public Spending.
This evidence session will be streamed live on Parliament TV.
Question the committee is likely to ask include:
- Will inflation prove to be more persistent than first envisaged?
- Are wages rising fast enough to compensate for the expected rise in the cost of living?
- How will the labour market evolve post-furlough?
- How effective has the Kickstart scheme been so far?
- Has the Treasury assessed how investment in the UK’s social infrastructure could be aligned with the Government’s levelling up agenda?
- How much investment, and on what, is required in the immediate transition for the Government’s Net Zero commitments?
- How will the Government guarantee that the social care sector will receive a portion of the money raised through the national insurance tax rise?
- What problem do you think central bank digital currencies would solve in the UK?
