Do investors have the confidence they need to make net zero happen?

Monday 15 November 2021

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will this week take evidence from organisations advising potential investors in the energy market.

The session will focus on whether investors have enough confidence in the consistency of the government’s energy policy to make the long-term investments required to move to low or zero-carbon energy production.
This takes place against the backdrop of the recent COP26 agreement where world leaders agreed to ‘phase down’ rather than ‘phase out’ reliance on coal-based energy production.

Giving evidence to the committee will be:

10:30am

  • Darryl Murphy, Head of Infrastructure, Aviva Investors
  • Simon Virley, Head of Energy and Natural Resources, KPMG

11:30am

  • Tom Samson, CEO, Small Modular Reactor Consortium

Follow the session live or on demand on Parliament TV.

Areas the sessions will cover include whether the policy framework around the move to net zero is clear enough for investors to commit their money into the sector, what regulatory barriers discourage investment in green energy production and what differences investors see between investing in renewable energy compared with other technologies such as nuclear.
