Housing minister to give evidence to Lords housing demand inquiry

Monday 1 November 2021

At 10am on Tuesday 2 November 2021, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will take evidence from the housing minister, the Rt Hon Christopher Pincher MP.

He will be joined by Emma Fraser, Director of the Housing Markets and Strategy Team at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

This session will be streamed on Parliament TV.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • Does the target of 300,000 new homes per year accurately reflect housing demand?
  • How does the availability of land affect the delivery of new housing?
  • What impact will the proposed Infrastructure Levy to replace Section 106 Agreements and the Community Infrastructure Levy have on meeting demand for affordable housing and the provision of necessary infrastructure?
  • How can the relationship between central government and local authorities be improved to meet the Government’s housing targets?
  • What will the Government do to ensure more homes for social rent are built?
  • How does the Government seek to improve the quality and design of new homes?
  • What is the Government doing to address skills shortages in in the construction, planning and design sectors?
  • The number of SME housebuilders has dropped dramatically in recent decades. What will the Government do to support SME housebuilders?
