Lords Science and Technology Committee to question DEFRA officials on nature-based solutions for climate change

On Tuesday 23 November, the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will hold its sixth evidence session for its inquiry into nature-based solutions for climate change.

The Committee is near the end of its inquiry and will now put the evidence it has heard from witnesses to officials from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. This includes the Department’s Chief Scientific Advisor and directors of the sub-departments which will be most involved with the implementation of nature-based solutions.

The session will take place at 10am on Tuesday 23 November 2021 and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

10:00am

  • Edward Barker, Director, Natural Environment, Trees and Landscapes at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Dr David Kennedy, Director General, Food, Farming and Biosecurity at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Professor Gideon Henderson, Chief Scientific Adviser at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Possible question topics include:

  • The Government’s headline targets for trees, peatlands, agriculture and marine nature based solutions
  • Scientific uncertainties for nature-based solutions raised by previous witnesses
  • Understanding and maximising co-benefits for nature-based solutions
  • The skills, training, and information gaps for nature-based solutions
