Ofgem CEO and Minister at BEIS face Lords scrutiny

Friday 26 November 2021

On Tuesday 30 November at 9:30am, the House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will question Greg Hands MP, Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, and Jonathan Brearley, CEO of Ofgem.

In the inquiry’s final evidence session, the committee will press government and the UK energy market regulator, Ofgem, for answers on their readiness for the net zero transition.

Topics include the need for greater policy clarity, the role of regulators in achieving net zero, energy supplier model reform and how to help vulnerable consumers with the costs of net zero transition.

Subjects under discussion also include the high number of energy supplier failures in recent months. The committee will investigate Ofgem’s role, the changes needed to prevent future energy market issues and the government’s stance on switching energy suppliers.

The session will be available to watch live or on-demand on Parliament TV.

There will be a short break between panels.

At 9:30am, the committee will take evidence from:

  • Jonathan Brearley, CEO, Ofgem
  • Neil Kenward, Director for Strategy and Decarbonisation, Ofgem

At 11.30am:

  • Greg Hands MP, Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, BEIS
  • Joanna Whittington, Director General – Energy and Security, BEIS
