Regulators give evidence to new Lords inquiry into digital regulation
Monday 1 November 2021
Members of the Lords will hear tomorrow (Tuesday 2 November at 2.30 p.m.) how regulators including Ofcom are adapting to the fast-changing digital world and about the work of the Digital Regulation Co-operation Forum when the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee begins a new inquiry.
The inquiry will investigate the effectiveness of digital regulation and how to ensure that it is forward-looking, joined-up, and subject to Parliamentary scrutiny.
The committee will hear from:
- Will Hayter, Senior Director, Digital Markets Unit, Competition and Markets Authority
- Kate Collyer, Chief Economist and interim Director of Competition, Financial Conduct Authority
- Stephen Almond, Director of Technology and Innovation, Information Commissioner's Office
- Kate Davies, Public Policy Director, Ofcom
Likely questions include:
- Has digital regulation kept pace with developments in technology?
- What will be the biggest challenges for digital regulators over the next ten years?
- How could regulators compete better with tech companies to attract and retain the most talented staff?
- How can digital regulators work more effectively with international partners?
