Lords Commissioner for Standards publishes a report into the conduct of Lord Bethell

Friday 8 October 2021

The independent House of Lords Commissioner for Standards has today published a report which clears Lord Bethell of any breach of the House of Lords Code of Conduct in relation to sponsoring a pass for Gina Coladangelo.

The Commissioner received a complaint alleging that Lord Bethell had reached rule 11C of the Code of Conduct by sponsoring a pass for Ms Coladangelo. House of Lords rules require that passholders sponsored by Members fall into one of four categories, and in this case the requirement was that Ms Coladangelo was “genuinely and personally providing parliamentary secretarial or research assistance” for Lord Bethell.

The Commissioner concludes that Ms Coladangelo’s work for Lord Bethell, which focused on advising him on his social media, speaking style and personal presentation. entitled her to a parliamentary pass from March to December last year.
