Office for the Internal Market to give evidence on Common Frameworks programme

Friday 15 October 2021

The Office for the Internal Market, which will provide independent reports on the functioning of the internal market and offer advice to the four administrations, will next week appear in front of the House of Lords Common Frameworks Scrutiny Committee, as it continues its inquiry into the Common Frameworks programme.

During the session, the committee will have the opportunity to discuss the role of the Office for the Internal Market, how it will consider common frameworks, its relationship with the devolved administrations, how it will interact with the mechanisms of intergovernmental relations, and its plans for future parliamentary engagement.

The session will take place virtually on Monday 18 October at 3:30pm and can be followed on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Jonathan Scott, Chair, Competition and Markets Authority
  • Rachel Merelie, Senior Director, Office for the Internal Market, Competition and Markets Authority

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • Can you set out the role of the Office for the Internal Market, and how you see your mission?
  • What do you see as the main challenges for the Internal Market in the next few years?
  • How will you measure the effects of Common Frameworks on the Internal Market?
  • What interaction have you had with the Devolved Administrations to date?
  • Will you consider the possible need for new common frameworks in particular areas as part of your reports?
  • How will you interact with the proposed reform of Intergovernmental relations? Do you expect to offer advice and provide evidence as part of the dispute resolution process?
  • What are your plans for future parliamentary engagement; and do you see a role for your organisation in better informing scrutiny on the Internal Market?
