Lords committee takes evidence on net zero policies
Monday 13 September 2021
The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will tomorrow question climate campaigners and former policymakers on policies needed for net zero transition.
Tomorrow’s session continues the committee’s inquiry into the role of energy market regulator, Ofgem, and its role in achieving the government’s target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The committee will gain expert insight with questions focused on the cost and potential impacts of a more renewable energy system, the role of carbon pricing and how policymakers should consider the interests of future generations.
The session (Tuesday 24 September at 10am) will be publicly available to watch on Parliament TV.
Giving evidence to the committee:
At 10am:
- Dr John Constable, Energy Editor, Global Warming Policy Forum
At 11am: - Maxine Frerk, Associate, Sustainability First
- Lord Adair Turner, Chair, Energy Transitions Commission
Possible questions to the witnesses include:
- What is your view of the likely cost of achieving net zero emissions?
- Should taxpayers or billpayers fund the investment needed for the transition?
- Is further clarity needed on the Government’s plans to reach net zero?
- How might a more renewable energy system affect the security of the UK’s energy supply?
- What role should net zero play in Ofgem’s remit?
