Music and creative industries to tell Lords committee of post-Brexit barriers

Monday 13 September 2021

How is touring by musicians and other performers affected by new barriers to the temporary movement of people and goods post-Brexit?

That is one of the likely questions when creative and music industry experts appear before the House of Lords European Affairs Committee tomorrow (Tuesday 14 September) in a one-off session to investigate the impact that the post-Brexit Trade and Cooperation Agreement between Britain and the European Union has had on our creative industries and the movement of creative professionals.

The committee will hear from:

At 4.00pm

  • Noel McClean, National Secretary (Arts and Entertainment, BBC and Independent Broadcasting Divisions), Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union
  • Craig Stanley, Chair, LIVE Touring Group and Promoter, Marshall Arts
  • Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive, Incorporated Society of Musicians

Other likely questions and topics for discussion include:

  • How important is trade with the EU to the sectors you represent?
  • How do you respond to Brexit minister Lord Frost’s view that the UK couldn’t agree to the EU’s proposal of a visa waiver for short-term visitors because it would have been inconsistent with ending free movement of people?
  • Do you welcome the government’s announcement in August confirming that 19 EU Member States don’t require visas or work permits to carry out short-term tours?
