Lords Committee hears from the FFCC, RSPB, the Wildlife Trust and WWF

Next week the House of Lords Land Use Committee will hold two public evidence sessions, as it continues its inquiry into land use in England.

The sessions will take place on Monday 4 April and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence at 3.30pm will be:

  • Dr Alison Caffyn - Senior Researcher, Land use, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission
  • Sue Pritchard - Chief Executive, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission
  • Dame Fiona Reynolds - Commissioner, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission

Questions will include:

  • How can we best ensure that the right thing is being done in the right place at the right scale including delivering environmental benefits, recreation, food and livelihood?
  • How does the Government’s levelling up agenda and housing policy impact on rural areas in general and the farming sector in particular?
  • What organisation or organisations would be best placed to plan and decide on the allocation of land for the various competing agendas for land use in England?

Giving evidence at 4.30pm will be:

  • Tom LancasterT - Head of Land, Seas and Climate Policy, RSPB
  • Elliot Chapman-Jones - Head of Public Affairs, The Wildlife Trusts
  • Alec Taylor - Head of Programme (Land Use and Climate), WWF

Questions will include:

  • Are the Government's ambitions for tackling climate change, nature recovery and biodiversity realistic?
  • Is the planning system up to the task of supporting nature, delivering on biodiversity net gain and wider environmental net gains?
  • What are the key challenges and opportunities for achieving 30 by 30?
