Supreme Court President and Deputy President to give evidence

The House of Lords Constitution Committee will tomorrow be holding its annual evidence session with the President and Deputy President of the Supreme court.

Giving evidence will be:

  • The Rt Hon the Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court
  • The Rt Hon Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the Supreme Court

Topics that may arise include:

  • The operation of the courts, including the Supreme Court’s international reputation and practices that have been adopted in response to the pandemic
  • The relationship between the Supreme Court, the executive and Parliament
  • The role of the Lord Chancellor and the Law Officers
  • Judicial review and Human Rights Act reform
  • Judicial appointments
  • The future of the Supreme Court, including suggested reforms
  • How the challenges of Brexit have been met since last year
  • Media portrayal and public understanding of the Court’s role
  • The witnesses’ resignations from the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal last Thursday

The session will take place on Wednesday 6 April at 10.15 AM and can be followed on Parliament TV.
