Department for International Trade to give evidence to Lords committee
Monday 12 December 2022
Tomorrow the House of Lords International Agreements Committee will be questioning the Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister of State for Trade Policy at the Department for International Trade.
The session will cover trade policy and current trade negotiations, including with the United States, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- What plans does the Government have to publish an overall trade policy?
- How realistic and desirable is a trade deal with the whole of the Gulf Cooperation Council versus bilateral deals with individual members?
- What is the hold-up with the negotiations on CPTPP accession and is accession likely to be by early 2023?
- What plans does the Government have, if any, to re-open the animal welfare and environment provisions in the UK-Australia free trade agreement under the Joint Committee?
- What is the purpose of agreeing Memorandums of Understandings with US states?
The session will take place on Tuesday 13 December at 4:00pm and can be followed on Parliament TV.
