Lords Committee holds further evidence session on the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill

Tomorrow, Tuesday 6 December 2022, the cross-party House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee will take evidence from Lord Callanan, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and senior officials from the Department in a second session on the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill (the Bill). Lord Callanan was the Minister of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union from October 2017 to January 2020.
The session will once again explore the relationship between Parliament and the Executive and scrutiny of secondary legislation.
The session will start at 4.00pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster.
Topics to be discussed will include:
- General character of the Bill
- Concerns about the shift in power from Parliament to the Executive
- Concerns about the sunset provision in the Bill
- Accuracy of the dashboard which catalogues the retained EU law across Government
- Enhanced scrutiny procedures
