BBC future funding: Lords committee to probe national broadcaster purpose

Monday 28 February 2022

What should people expect from a national broadcaster, is the concept still relevant and what kind of programming should it prioritise?

These are likely questions when the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee continues its new inquiry into the BBC’s future funding tomorrow (Tuesday 1 March at 2.30pm).

The committee will hear from:

  • Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman, Ogilvy Group UK
  • Polly Mackenzie, Chief Executive Officer, Demos
  • David Goodhart, Head of Demography, Immigration and Integration, Policy Exchange
  • Dr Adrian Wooldridge, Global Business Columnist, Bloomberg

Possible other questions include:

  • Is there a difference between what the public expects from a national broadcaster and the social value it exists to provide?
  • Do public expectations of the BBC’s role differ across different sections of society?

The session will be live on Parliament TV.
