What is the effect of short-term holiday lettings, such as Airbnb, on the supply of homes?
Monday 21 February 2022
On Tuesday 22 February 2022, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will hear evidence on the impact of short-term lettings, such as Airbnb, on housing markets, in particular how they affect the housing supply.
This session is part of the committee’s new short inquiry on this topic.
At 10.00am the Committee will hear from:
- Professor Marina Novelli, Professor of Tourism and International Development, Brighton Business School, University of Brighton
- Dr Tatiana Moreira de Souza, Lecturer in Planning, University of Liverpool.
This evidence session will be streamed on Parliament TV.
Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:
- What are the positive and negative effects of an increase in short-term lettings through ‘sharing economy’ providers such as Airbnb?
- What is the impact of the scale of short-term lettings on housing markets?
- What options are available for the regulation and/or management of short-term lettings? How effective are they?
- What are the challenges facing the implementation of further regulation of short-term lettings through ‘sharing economy’ platforms?
