International Trade Secretary to be quizzed on Government negotiations and policy

Tuesday 12 July 2022

Tomorrow the House of Lords International Agreements Committee will be holding an evidence session with the Secretary of State for International Trade, the Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP.

The session will focus on areas such as current and forthcoming negotiations, overall trade policy and transparency.

Topics the Committee is likely to discuss include:

  • The major trade negotiations that the Government is currently undertaking, including progress in the UK-US Trade Dialogue
  • Concerns that the speed of the negotiations with India is being prioritised over substance, and whether the Prime Minister’s resignation and Conservative party leadership contest will impact the Diwali deadline
  • The Government’s overall trade policy and how it links into the UK’s broader goals, including climate aims and foreign policy, as well as its red lines
  • Progress on improving scoping and impact assessments to provide greater detail of the potential impacts of trade agreements on the devolved nations

The session will take place on Wednesday 13 July at 9:30am and can be followed on Parliament TV.
